    where would i find the date, still alot of crud to clean off?

    Glad to see you and the Kid will be doing this together. You picked probably the best engine to do this to. Lots of parts available, cheap, in both OEM and aftermarket, new and used. I thiink a guy could walk into any good sized swap meet and walk out with a complete Chevy engine just buying one part at at time at various booths.

    The Chevy guys will know more, but Vortec heads seem to be a good low cost way to more power, but I am not sure if they will work with your combo. I suspect they will, but I will leave that to the experts.
