37 Quarter Window Weatherstripping
I am attempting to replace the rear quarter vent window seals on a 1937 Cadillac LaSalle. The procedure should be the same for Chevys and Buicks. I have the old weatherstripping out but I can't get the glass out. I would prefer not to remove the galss from its channel if at all possible. There are pivots at the top and the bottom and two corresponding holes in the new weatherstripping.
Is there any trick to getting this out and the new weatherstripping in? Is there a hidden pin or is there a chance something has rusted together. I don't want to drill any rivets out until I have to.
Thanks, Jay

If it is like Chevy you will have to take the frame out, then the glass out of the frame, put in the rubber then the glass, reassemble. The two pivots go thru the rubber. one top one bottom.

I don't know if you will be able to read the copy so....
1. Remove the rear quarter window garnish molding
2. Remove the screws holding the rear quarter ventilator retainer to the rear quarter window opening. These screws may be found at intervals around the entire opening. Fig 149
3. Entire assembly may now be lifted out.
Hope this helpsLast edited by cffisher; 11-11-2006 at 04:06 PM.

I have gotten that far along, but now I am stumped.
I have the same manual, but it stops short of telling you how to get the weatherstripping on. The frames are off the car. The old rubber is out. However, I can't figure out how to get the glass panel out in order to install the new weatherstripping. I assumed once I took the bolt out of the bottom pivot that the top pivot would drop down and then I could pull the bottom pivot out after grinding the bottom off a little.
To confuse me even more the two sides are pivoting differently on the top pivot. One side only the glass moves on the pivot on the other side the whole pin moves. I am thinking maybe something has rusted together and I am just not pushing/pulling hard enough.
Thanks for your help.

Thanks guys! It's been a long road. Fun doing finishing work for sure. Getting the dash ready for paint and some interior trim. Have to do some finish work on the aluminum headliner before...
