Sometimes "more" is not necessarily "better".
Case in question: The 500-cube Caddy engine vs. the 301-cube Chevy.Ensure that the path of least resistance is not you...

I think you might be comparing apples to oranges on this one.

this whole conversation staggers the possibilites of the human mind. some of us like 327 and under some like 454 nd up some like the middle range. why cant we all just settle it the right way on the track

ive alway had good luck with my 22r toyota motors, stomped on alot of big bad v8s... or you could build a nice 90s supra twin turbo 6.. you could get about 800 street driven horses out of em and still get 20 miles to the galon... so much for the ford noise, i want to see ya drive that hemi every day....
thanks
harmon
p.s. not trying to step on toes here, so ill say sorry now

Well, if I was looking for fuel mileage, I sure as heck wouldn't look at an 815 ci hemi----As far as 800 horse out of a 6 with twin turbos----If I was in to turbo's and 6 cylinders it would interest me----and as far as daily drivers, got a really nice Bonneville, gets 25 mpg.... The shop is 10 yards behind the house, don't have to drive at all if I don't want to....

PSS--If you can make a carbed 22R develop 1000 horse, why are you working on a Dodge, a Ford, and a Chebbie???Last edited by Dave Severson; 11-14-2006 at 11:28 PM.

all i can tell ya is stay away from the early 90s supras, cuz they are some bad SOBs... when i lived in NC a friend of had one that made about 750hp to the rear tires on the dyno (off the bottle) and drove the car to work everyday...

ok boys simmer down.. ill go hide under my dodge now, you put me in my place... i wasnt tring to piss anyone off just trying to make a point... i got interested in this thread becuase there was a 283 going a little pu and that sounded pretty cool.. so i start reading and all i read tells him to build something else...
i like 283 myself and if thats what he want to build let him build it. the guy wasnt asking how to build a 377,383,350 or anything other than a 283.. so help him out please rather than telling him to build something else...
thanks
harmon
p.s. i just did the whole yota thing to get your attention.. so letss get back to the task at hand (283) ... i want to learn something from my elders....
