    Being a big fan of the Gen III and IV small blocks, my shoice would br the LS2, and why not fuel injected? 400 hp out of the box with a pretty good amount of aftermarket stuff available for more if you want it. 20+ mpg with the 4L60E automatic. With 3.73 gears and a decent tire mid 12s should be no problem.
