Thread: 1947 studebaker champion streetrod??

Well we just got back from Louisville and I now know I have to rod my 1947 studebaker. The car was originally bought by my father and has been locked in a garage since 1960's. Anyway, the only way my family will enjoy the car is to rod it. Does anybody here have info. on what suspension to use etc. Thanks

Stu Cool on here has a '53 Starlight coupe with an LS1, had a 350 in it b4 that. suspension and stuff should be the same or simmilar. he should have some info for ya.

I'll reply just to keep this thread alive until Stu or someone else can see it. You've made the point I have always believed. These older cars are just so much more usable when rodded vs stock. You have a real history with this one, and it must be pretty solid since it was stored relatively early in it's life.

How about posting some pictures, we'd all love to see them.

Although I've never seen this particular swap, a sbc or sbf should be a nice fit, especially with automatic behind. Steering box may be an issue, but if you are changing suspensions, a rack will probably solve that. We used a custom made front suspension from Scotts Hot Rods under my Kids S10, and it included disc brakes, non power rack (but he could have gotten power) and was a pretty easy install on the custom frame he built for it. I think I have a picture of it, if I do I'll post it below.

PS: Ok, I found a couple of pix of it. Obviously, this was set up with airbags, to set it on the ground, but you can get the same front end for coilovers with normal ride height.
