"Now, I need to find something to practice on - other than the car . .."
Washers and dryers make for great practice locations, as well as inside garage doors. Just don't let the little woman catch you.

Maybe I won't give up after all. The trunk lid came out fine. I thought the hood was toast because of all the dust and orange peel, but it's amazing what a few . . . no make that a lot . . . of hours with some 1000 and 2000 grit will do.
I talked to a body shop owner up the street about clearing the body for me. He said: "Just clean up your garage, practice a bit, reduce the paint more than the manufacturer says and shoot it."
I've painted cars on and off since I shot one in high school in 1963 in the wash bay of my dad's service station. Everything from nitrocelulose lacquer to BC/CC, and I've NEVER had this much trouble.
Oh well . . . street rodding isn't supposed to be fun, is it?Jack

I saw last night on fb about John. The world sure lost a great one. I'm going to miss his humor, advice, and perspective from another portion of the world. Rest in Peace Johnboy.
