Reground camshafts
Now that I have already bought a new stock grind camshaft, I think I'd rather have a mid-range grind instead. This because I'll be pulling a travel trailer or a car trailer occasionally.
Yeah, I know. I should have thought of that sooner.
I would like somebody's opinion of re-ground cams. Some companies offer new camshafts to fit the buyer's needs or, to satisfy us CSOB's, they'll sell you a regrind that's ground to the same specs as a new one for quite a bit less money.
A reason to buy one is, of course, money, but there must be reasons NOT to buy one. Would a regrind have less surface hardness than a new one (or maybe less "wearability" if there is such a word)? I have bought camshafts in the distant past (when I was drag racing) but never a regrind.
I would appreciate the opinions of some of the CHR engine wizards who keep the rest of us out of trouble.
Thanks,
Jim
