More on where parts are made

I haven't bought any piston rings for a 4 stroke in a while..Overhauling a 153CID Chev inline four from a boat..The perfect Circle ring set I got is interesting...The box says made all around the place some in USA (where the hell is that??)...India...Argentina....Brazil...some place in the South Pacific etc...The box has the usual three compartments seperating the rings by groove...All the rings for the top groove are marked right...The ones for the second groove have two marked wrong and two right..The oil rings seem OK....Yeah I know it could be just a mistake but the point is I find parts like this all the time that don't match made is so many places...Hard to understand why they make one ring each in eight different place across the world...NAFTA..Bah!!!!.....The last 153 I overhauled ..number two rod shell wouldn't fit because the old one had been ground on the end to fit because the rod cap was made wrong...The engine was made south of the border so that explains that......Al...

Have a 98 sable, need a power door lock actuator. have no clue where they make em, but they are precious, $70 or so. have one i bought for my last chrysler minivan, makde in england my rockwell international. $15. both very similar, both plastic., the cheaper one screws together and can be fixed (it is why i have not installed the new one) the Ford one, well, it is glued/snapped together and the snaps broke...am trying to fix that as $70 is too much. a real PITA to pull from a junk yard car though...

I cannot understand how it can be cheaper to make a part in china/brazil et al and ship it here. they still need machine tools, etc and i nknow labor is less and environmental lawas are laxer, etc, but ever ship something internationally? not cheap. every try to to buy something from overseas? them foreigners act like they don't unnerstand plain inglish!

When I bought my 1972 Suburban it had a similar bumper sticker. I liked it a little better. It amounted to "Impeach Clinton and her husband, too" I liked it enough to give it a home. It is still on the thing along with the greatful dead bears and a few others.

Of course Al, and I, have a senior senator here that is a real prize too! Each year, Senate staffers have a poll, ranking each senator on their "intelligence". Our Ms. Murray ranked #49 in the last poll!!

PS.. Chris , have ya tried using rubber bands on the lock actuator yet?? LOL

not a bad idea there streets...the glue i tried is holding it together, but not tight enough. gum bands (as the locals here call em) just might work...been thinkin wire, duct tape, cloth soaked in epoxy...gumbands will work!

Unions have their place I suppose, but that place was 50 years ago. My cousin worked wummers inthe steel mills here (mid 70s) and made more pushing a broom than he could make as an engineer! fortunately he chose to be an engineer, as in 82 or so the mills all here collapsed.

almost all politicans seem to be two faced liars, but try it sometime and you'll see that to be elected requires the support of them with money, and to gets that money they promis this or that, and then that or this. and then to get a bill passed, they has to trade votes with all dem other politicians...

how 'bout we all run for judge jobs and toss em all in jail for contempt?

I have oft thought of being a lawyer just so I'd have the chance to be a judge. I would love to be able to throw someone in jail for contempt. The best thing is is that with a contempt charge, it is all the judge's call. The only problem with it is that you wouldn't get to see the politician's face on their prison honeymoon

local magistrate here is retiring after 13 years. was appointed by guvner and then elected twice (6 year terms). Had NO experience - was not a lawyer or even a paralege. was a secretary. apparently was on union grievence comittee (sec'y in a steel mill, gotta be a steelworker. luv dem unions!)

she was active in local democratic party - fundraisers, working polls, etc. whe know hte politicians and democratic party leaders, so when the previous magistrate retired she managed to get appointed. no experience necessary!

local township supervisor job opened up so i figure i might run. i called the local republican comitte folks 4 or 5 times... no repsonse. i tried the democrats then, still no respoonse. i weren't askin fer money...just that to get on teh ballot you need 10 or15 signatures from the same party. short of going door to door or hanging out in front of hte grocery stores on a saturday afternoon i don't know 10 or 15 folks let alone 10 or 15 in the same party! so i figure that is what the party is there for...yeah right. i guess i never gave them any money so they didn't know my name.

perhaps i can find a judge that will let me change my name to Jack Shitt. I'll be famous - it's easy to find folks that know jack shitt!
