If you can get on the bottom bolts that hold the punkin' in with a ratchet extension, it's an 8-inch. If you have to use a box end wrench, it's a 9-inch.

There should be a tag that tell you what it is right on the rear. it tells the year ratio and size.

I checked the bolts and only a wrench would go on the bottom 2 bolts because the housing makes an incline shape there that wouldn't allow room for a socket/ratchet. Charlie,or anyone, can you interpret the tag please? WDM-BV4 7JC

75 REAR IN A 78 TRUCK? 9"REAR? 351 RATIO? What does the B mean? Anything there tell if it is an open or limited slip?

Thank you Tech,,,,,you provide so much info.on here I started to say,Sir Richard, but I won't seeing how I don't know if you'd like
that or not, cause I don't want to get on your bad side.

But after viewing that link I still can't determine if the rear is an 'open' or 'limited' slip. Maybe all the truck rears are the big L? Anyone???
AAAAnnnd, although I was getting the F-100 ready for paint and selling it,now I'm tempted to put the 9" in the S10,which I bought to make a 1/4 drag truck. And I really can't afford to have it narrowed, new axles,etc.,etc., the S10 has the despicable 7.5 rear. OH,OH, how do you get this racing stuff out of your blood?
