    channeling

I've been chopping the top among other things to a 36 three window for the past year and we have decided to channel the body about 3 inches in front and maybe two in the rear to give it a more agressive stance. we're installing recaro bucket seats and have plenty of room inside. I'm just looking for tips, things to look out for, reference material, or recent magazine publications addressing this proceedure before I begin.

I never did this before so can't help much but all I can say is..... Measure first, then measure again, then just in case measure again and then measure one more time and then for the He** of it measure again and then just to be REALLY REALLY SURE, measure for the last time.... Did I mention you should measure?
Hold tight and you will get some responses more helpful than mine, lots of old timers on here have done this and can help you.

I am no expert either, but I can refer you to one who is. Check out some books by Tex Smith. He has one on How to Build custom Cars that will probably give you good advice. I'll try to link to it, but if it doesn't work, go to Google and search for Tex Smith, Custom cars

Tex Smith has good books. Another good one is his "How to Chop Tops" book. Which looks like you already did this but still this is an example.

Been researching the subject myself, in preparation for my 36 chevy sedan. One article I read says that you have to raise the fenders an equal amount to the channel. Kind of makes sense, that way you won't be scrubbing the fenders with the tires.

Another article cautions that if you are over six foot tall, you might want to reconsider before chopping AND channeling, as you might not fit into the car too well after.

If you slum around the photo section on this site, you 'll see a couple of nice pictorials documenting channeling.

Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

    channeling

Howdy. I'm new to this forum, and I'm looking for a resource on channeling. I'm not too worried about the floor part of it,..you can't get much easier than a square 54 Ford 2 door, but I am worried about other stuff like the column position and length, and pedals and the toe boards where they curve up into the firewall. All that would change,..right? And if pedals change, you'd probably be playing around with the length of linkages, too.

Has anybody seen anything that does more than just mention channeling? Never seen the Tex Smith books in person, but I've heard about them.
