one small detail for ya. The HEI distributor needs at least 12 GA wire. One way to accomodate this, is route the points wire to a relay, and have the relay switch a 12 GA wire feeding the HEI. You can take the switched wire straight from the battery, but it would be a much better idea to add an inline fuse ( 20 A )..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.
