    Dave S Some Tri-power thoughts

Decided to be a nice guy and not hijack the cooling thread .

It's just me, but I'm not a big fan of Holleys. There are some options other than the stock ford carbs and linkage. The FE tri-power intakes lend themselves pretty well to be modified for Rochesters. I ran this setup on my T Bird for about 5 years before I sold the car and kept the Tri-Power .

Its a Pontiac large base 2bbl from a 400 CI engine (built in electric choke) and small base outboards. The only mods to the manifold were redrilling for the different carb base bolt pattern and a little blending of the throats for the throttle plates. Basically the Holley carbs could be reinstalled and no one would no the difference.

The air cleaner is one of the PAW chrome units (about $50) that is a knock off old the Ford Tri-power/Dual quad units, even takes the same filter. They only come in dual quad and single quad versions so I had to modify the base for it. Total height is very close to original.

Only down side is the Front carb sits VERY close to the distributor and you have to run something small like a Mallory (if you do this have the distributor in place when you figure the placement for the front carb.)

Personally, I like the looks better than running holleys as the fuel bowls face foward, the fuel lines are on the right and the linkage is on the left.

On the T-Bird IT RAN GREAT, its new home is going to be my 64 Ford Custom.
