    power steering issue!!! help

    I have a 1970 Ford XL convertible with a swapped 460 and I have a steering issue...

when I steer to the right it feels real hard, just like it would run without fluid and when I steer to the left it is normal and at a certain point it all the sudden steers all the way to the left by itself!!!

    What's going on?? pump, gear??

It has enough fluid. Has been driven without fluid though for a while before I bought it!!

    help! any ideas?

Had a similar situation with a van. Had it at a shop to get pitman arm replaced. Crazy mechanic didnt support the box before the last bolt and it free fall to the floor, landing on the shaft. He reinstalled and released back to me without testing. When I tried to steer, it did the same thing you are saying. Had to replace the steering box.

Right, the valve in the box is sticking. Did the engine whack the box or shaft when you were installing it? That will do it sometimes. Replace the box.
