    MSD 6ALN wiring help

Just got a deal on a MSD 6ALN
    Used for three races

I wanted to install it in a 5.0 Mustang

I mounted the unit, used supplied harness, the green and purple wire are not used on a Ford.

Heavy Red wire to positive battery, heavy black to ground.

Orange and Red wire to Coil, Black and Brown wire go into the coil connector that runs to the dizzy.

Polarity is correct on hook up of coil.

The instructions available for download from MSDN do not mention the brown wire in the installation. They reference a white wire. 6ALN's use a white wire for a kill switch. The race team I got the box from does not use the kill switch on the box.

After hooking everything up, it does not work.
I installed a 7k limiter in the box, the car may turn 7k ONCE but that's really not the issue.

I know the box is good, the team checked it after removal. the team races NASCAR.
It's July 4th and they are not in the shop.

    HELP me please

    Brown wire???

I've never seen a brown wire on an MSD. The 6AL(N) is a 6AL with a standardized (N) for NASCAR plug. Is it possible your brown wire is violet???

MSD has a really good tech forum. I would post your question over there, or just give them a call. I've called them in the past and they were more than helpful.

    Thanks folks,
I'm going to give MSD a call this AM.

BTW, the brown is brown. They have cut the violet and green wire off the plug. the wires are going into the weatherpack but once they leave the plug they are cut about one inch long.
    they are not used.
I all my other installs of MSD boxes the green and violet are for the trigger in the dizzy.
But with all the stuff that NASCAR guys do to these boxes it's no big surprise.
They will run a brand new box for four races and remove them. They do not use them again, that's how I got one. Most of the teams in NC have a public store that sells used equipment. I found one in Mooresville NC that was a consighnment store. Everything from Alum drive shafts to used guages. Great place to just go browse in.
A flea market for Hot Rodders!

    Fixed!

White wire was cut off flush at the box. It was used as a kill switch but they don't use it anymore.

Took the white wire to the coil.

    Fired right up.

the brown wire is for the tack.

    Thanks,

One thing I did find out, if you leave the coil wire off when trying to start the engine, it shoots one HELL of a spark over the the solinoid!

Looked like a small lighting bolt!

    Glad my hand wasn't there!
