is that a 2 gen or a 3 gen? I had an 84 that ran into a simular problem. Ended up being the frame cracked behind the steering gear box. common problem with this gen the front end was poorly designed. I had it sent to a local shop and they welded the crack and put in braces to help support the front. If this is not your problem you should be able to pick up the brackets at a local junk yard or through the aftermarket. I think year one sells the brackets you need.

i had the frame welded (same area you spoke of)back when it was hit but the front end was still on when i removed it the left bracket fell off, the right is twisted as are the first six to eight inches behind the bracket. is this a cut and weld or is there apoint further back were they can be disconected and replaced like the earlier gens.? (this a 3rd gen.) al

You should be able to remove it. I would look at the other side (if still intact) and follow it to were it ends.
