I never said you shouldn't clean the metal to the best of your ability, but there will be certain cases that you cant get the metal as clean as you might like . When I bought my lincoln wire welder I asked that very question and they gave me that answer. If you look at the instructions you will find they stess grinding and cleaning more with the mig than with flux. Thanks Carlg
