Yep metal prep is allways a bigee.The air plane builders use gas migs to weld seat frames together. And tested them in crashes, the finding was that the seats would with stand a 9 g crash.
Flux is messy and smoky which makes it hard to see the weld.
Gas mig is the best in my book with the right metal preperation or clean up.

i agree with the clean metal and the less than perfect clean sueface, but you said "flux welding will work better if the metal is rusted", is the part i dont know about. :eek:Quote:

Why would you want to weld rust anyway. It don't matter which welder I'm using, I always hit it with the grinder first.

i wouldnt either, but orange crush said "Mig welding looks nicer when you have a rust free piece of metal, flux welding will work better if the metal is rusted". i just told him i had never heard this before amd i dont agree with it either.

I don't either. A contaminated weld is a contaminated weld I was always told. It might look nice on the surface, but the root weld will be weaker if the material is contaminated. Don't know if I was misled, ......................... I'm just sayin':) :)
I never said you shouldn't clean the metal to the best of your ability, but there will be certain cases that you cant get the metal as clean as you might like . When I bought my lincoln wire welder I asked that very question and they gave me that answer. If you look at the instructions you will find they stess grinding and cleaning more with the mig than with flux. Thanks CarlgQuote:

them i came back and said, id never heard that before and you proceeded to tell me how to prep. a piece of metal before you weld it. 2 things, you probably didn't mean it like it sounds(but you did say it) and if I don't know how to prep a piece of metal by now its way to late to change.

sorry :D im haven a hell of a time with these weight jacks..
one i just took the jack bolt out cut it to size and screwed it in where it was
the other:mad: its carzy i cant do any thing to mount it without twisting it out of its original spot theres all kinds of bars in the way wut should i do crew chief twist it or cut stuff?
