I had an 80 Z28, but it used the stock tack, but I'll see if I can help.
What brand/model is your tach? Does it have a shift light?
If I remember correctly, a tack usually has 4 wires.
ground- use "star" washer and find a good solid ground.
power- (maybe connect directly to fuse box, if not, an in-line fuse is a good idea.)
engine output- connect to Distributor if HEI (i think)
illumination- maybe connect to the parking lights in the fuse block?
It's always a good idea to use a "star" washer when connecting ground wires. Even better if you can run a wire to the frame.
This is just my recollection now, and I haven't wired a tach in a long time. I would DEFINATELY check the manufacturer's web site and see if they have a suggested schematic available. If not, call them.Last edited by kwik69; 05-03-2005 at 11:25 PM.
