Tire and Wheel Combo for 1966 Impala

I would like to put wider tires and wheels on the rear of my '66 Impala and keep them in the wheel wells.
I have 235/70-15 on now. I think on an 8" rim.

Anybody know how wide I can go?

    thanks,
    Scott

I have 8 inch Rally wheels on my 64 and judging from the picture I would guess what You have is no more than 7 inch.In person it is very easy to tell a 7 inch from an 8 inch. Anyone who has dealt with them for years can tell from 50 feet away. You do have a nice looking Impala. You should be able to put an 8 inch corvette rally wheel on it with no problem . Any aftermarket wheel just depends on the backspacing. You'll have to measure that for Yourself.A lot of people like to keep 6s or 7s on the front and 8s on the rear. With the weight of the car on the wheels see how much space You have between the tire and the wheel opening. Also measure to see how much clearance you have between the back side of the tire and the inner fender or wheel opening. You should be able to go up at least a couple size tires on the rear. Any more than that you could have rubbing when you put a couple people in the back seat. Measure good , check back spacing on the wheel, but anything more than I have suggested is just trial and error to see what works and what wont .Good Luck!
