    gear reduction starter hookup

Okay, I'm using a gear reduction starter on the coupe and unlike regular ones it has only TWO terminals - one for the battery cable and a small one. There are two wires routed down there, one says " solenoid power" and the other says "ignition switch start". Anyone know which wire goes where? I'm using a Mallory breakerless distributor and 6A box if that makes any difference, and I've been told it does - that one wire is not used now. Thoughts??

Well, the wire from the ignition switch is the wire that transmitts the signal to initiate a start. That one has to hook up to the solenoid. As for the other one, I don't know. Was it a ballast resistor bypass? That is the only other wire that I can think of that normally goes to a solenoid. You may have a few wires for always on accessories that run to the same terminal that you hook the battery up to.

What I've got is one BIG battery cable hooked to the BIG terminal on the starter and then theres the other two (10 gauge) wires labeled as above. I know one of them goes to the other smaller termainal on the starter but which one I don't know.

it will be the ign switch start. the other sounds like it goes on the big post and go to a fuse box or something for hot all the time.
