Yes, I did prep the wire and pre cut the end.... thought I would simply re-attach it and it would be done. Wrong answer.

My next challenge is to find a replacement. I've already hit the auto parts stores and all I get is the "Goat in the Headlight look".

I can sodder the end back on.

Question: Do I really need it?

you could solder it back on probably, but i i think all it does is keep the radio noise down. jump over it and see what it does.

    Question

One more thing.... the wiring diagram in my Chilton's Manual calls it a "Tach Filter Assembly".

That was it. I touched the wire back to the tip and the Tach came to life. I think I'll try and sodder it back on rather then jumping it.

You guys were amazing. Thanks for the help and support. I was at my wits end today!!!!!!!! Thanks again guys.....

The Tach filter is supposed to stop voltage spikes as well as quiet the radio.

Classic Instruments has a tach filter that should work. It has three wires: In, Out, Ground.

I think I might go back to the auto parts store in the morning and ask for an In Line Radio filter.... just in case the sodder jog doesn't work.

You could start the car, touch the wire to the end of the condenser and see if the TACH works.

    bg489,

I think you have it backwards. If you look closely in the picture, you can see the words TACH on the left and BAT on the right. Right above that are (from left to right) C- GRD B+

In any case, he's not looking for where to attach to the distributor, he's trying to find out where to attach it to the signal lead that goes to the tach inside the car.
    oops
