homemade side pipe mufflers

well my t bucket is slowly coming along frame together now figuring out how to put a t bucket back together once sawed in half.
i looked at some glass pack mudfflers the other day and have thought of a neat sidepipe idea.
would it work to cut the back end off of one galss pack and the front end off another weld them togerther to create a muffler approx 4 feet long 2 glass pack together) plus on the end get a 3 1/2 dia turnout exaust pipe for the back
i am runnign a 500 cu in engine and i know for shure it would be too loud araund here as the rcmp patrols frown on noise.
would i have a back pressure problem with this or not.
just a idea??????

you cant cut the muf. ends off like that and save the inner parts, because there whould be nothing to weild the inner pipe to. there is a pipe inside a glass pack muf. if youer not gonna use the glass pack part of it, you just as well buy a piece of stright 31/2" pipe, how ever long you need it and put a inlet and outlet on it without the glass. it will be loud. if you wont i can tell you how to make the 4 ft. glass pack with the glass in it . if you really wont to know.

i see what you mean, but i took a good look at the old one i have in the shop right now and i could cut the ends off it as the through pipe does not connect directly to the end of the pipe. there is a steel flange inside the muffler behind the taper.
ok question how would i build my own glass pak if i wanted too. you have got my self build bug activated now.

if your talking a 18 to 24" you need to go buy one. what im talking about is taking 2- 24" and making 1 48" one. with the glass and baffle in it. is that what you wont?

exactly taking 2 24 inch glass pacs = 1 48 inch sidepipe.

canadianal i have done this a few times, but i had the pipe, baffles, glass, welder, cutting tourch, and grinders that i needed. i dont know what your set up is but it will take some time to do. if it does somebody some good when what he hell. denny im out for your job. you need to up-date your photoshop.

Use Thrush Magnums, they have a perforated "floating" inner baffle with the glass louvered behind it, I put 1 on my '51 Chevy, stock 235, my dad thought it would be way too loud, it was fairly quiet but with a nice exzaust tone a little raspy at just off idle but nicer in the higher crusing rpm's like 1500-2000, if ya get on it, it really sounds cool. I have a 2" 31" long Thrush Magnum. I'v heard that the longer the glasspack, the quieter it is but, my 31" magnum is the first time I'v used a glasspack muffler.

he wonts 48" ones. know where any are?

I'm not shure, maby they might make a longer case for the right price, He could call thrush directly and ask about that. I'v never heard of 48" glasspacks being produced, so I can't say I know of any.

matt are you sleep? what do you think i was doing for the last 2 hrs. trying to tell him how to make a 48 " one out of 2 short ones. i guess i didnt do so good.
