    Emergency (parking) brake mounted crosswise

     



    Since I do not have sufficient room to mount my floor mount style emergency brake between my seats, I think I will mount it crosswise, directly in front of the drivers bucket seat. Since the pull created is in line with the handle, it seems logical that the cable running from the E-brake handle back to the twin cables (which go to the 2 rear wheels)should run around some kind of pulley, to redirect the pull so that it is parallel to the centerline of the roadster pickup body. I have never seen an article on this, and left to my own devices I am sure I can engineer something suitable. I am just curious to see how other people have approached this. ---Anybody got pictures? I am definately going to use the floor mount handle.

    Depending on the E-brake handle you're going to use, you may want to take a look at the Gennie Shifter (Lokar is the same I believe) style cables.
    They're similar to a large motorcycle brake/clutch control cable and work very well when used in conjunction with their dual cable adapters.

    Nice part about them is you can wind them through the chassis and no pulleys required.

    The pic below shows another way out of the E-Brake handle floor mount dilemma.
    I see a lot of these mounted on the passenger side and they may be easier to operate than mine which is on the drivers side, but mine is easy to reach and operate.
    Thinking here was, the passenger needs all the room they can get and the driver is more or less stuck in the same position.

    Be sure to mount the E-brake handle far enough back so your heel doesn't rub on it when driving.
    I find it's not in the way during entry/exit or driving.

    The E-brake handle shown is a Gennie Shifter stainless model.
    Very similar to a Vega handle, but scaled down just a touch.

    I had planned to use a 70's era Corvette handle since they're kinda classy looking.
    At least I was until I found out that Vettes are about the most expensive car to restore there is.
    Discounting the one-offs and exotic antiques anyway.

    Some of today's cars, specially the made in Japan models have some nice looking E-Brake handles.

    Anyone have any recommendations on which one of these would make for a nice floor mount E-brake handle?

    I don't want any of the mechanism exposed, it should have an escutcheon plate and a boot of some kind similar to what's shown on the Gennie handle shown below.
