    Just bought a 1929 Model A (Murray-bodied) 4-Door Sedan with title!

I just bought a Model A Murray-bodied 4-door sedan -- with a title. The car came without a frame and I'm trying to find the VIN. I've been told that it's on the outside passenger side of the firewall. The only tag I can see is a little rectangular tag mounted to the passenger side of the gas tank but anything written on it is hidden by a dark gray oxidation. Is this the right location? How do I clean this tag without destroying the information.

I have the title with VIN, but I just wanted to make sure I could see it clearly on the car in case anyone asked.

In that era Ford stamped the VIN on the frame, not the body.

It's much easier to promise someone a "free" ride on the wagon than to urge them to pull it.

Yup. On the top of the rail on the driver side, somewhere around the steering box area.

But then, what is that little oxidized tag I see on the firewall side of most '29 gas tanks? Was is a list of engine specs, valve lash or something like that?

Those links sound like they might be exactly what I need, but unfortunately are bombing right now. Maybe their server is down. I'll try again tomorrow.

I'll see what I can do about pictures.

    Here's a link with photo.

Unfortunately, it's of a 1930-31 Briggs or Murray and I'm not sure if the 1929s are the same. Anyway, my tag is so corroded I just can't read it.
