Metal braces for fiberglass hood tops
O.K.---here's the issue. When I bought the current roadster pickup project, it came with a fiberglass hood. The hood is in good condition, made to go from a 31 A cowl to a 32 grillshell. Now as you would expect, the glass hood is kind of floppy, and needs some internal stiffners. My local speed shop sells a set of "hood braces", for the low, low, price of $104.00 plus tax. I have only seen these things in the catalogue, but they appear to be a peice of bent 3/8" rod with a flat plate on each end that bolts to the inside of the lip on each hood side. I am a pretty handy guy with a torch, and i'm thinking 2 hours tops, garage time to fabricate them myself. One thing I don't know---does the rod actually come in contact with the inside of the hood, or is the only contact area where the flat plate contacts the inner hood lip? Has anybody got a picture of a set of these things installed on a glass A hood? If you do, I would greatly appreciate having a look. Thanx, BrianOld guy hot rodder
