wow, you guys really got worked up over this one. I have had no problems with geardrives, but have had problems with "high quality" chains.

I don't think that the sound is saying something is wrong. Straight cut gears in transmissions make noise also. I have run one and have since sold the engine. It's still going strong with over 20,000...
