Now thats the funniest thing ive seen all day.

When i was working out in Maricopa, AZ an old bug rolled up. But i didnt know it was an old bug, all i saw was a really low, right front rounded fender with a big whitewall stuffed into it. I decided to go outside an investigate it and i was absolutely shocked to see it was a 60's beetle. The guy had put a roof from a 70's beetle on it, chopped it about 6inches, a rear window from a different year bug in it, narrowed the body a few inches, shaved it, and shot it with tan primer, then put old rallys on it and big ole biasply whites on the back and whites on the front. I couldnt believe what i was seeing. It was like i was in some prank video where someone stripped an old rat rod and threw all the parts on a Beetle!!! I guess i missed the start of that whole trend completely because theres theres not many hot rod VW's are running around Chicago.

And also i must say, it was good quality work and i give respect for the time and $ into it, but i still cant believe theres a whole crowd out there who modifies old beetles into "rods". It amazes me. What will they think of next?

So, truth be told, i began looking at my 77 C10 and my 99 Sonoma in a different light because of gas prices, and the little hampsters in my head started turning the wheels and cranking out hot rod VW ideas... And im still not sure whether these ideas or good or bad... But a slight desire to turn heads in a rodded out VW is floating around in my brain.Last edited by 46FordSuperDlux; 07-18-2007 at 10:12 PM. 1947 Ford Super Deluxe Fordor

 WHAT a sales pitch!!!!

quote from the VW rod link posted earlier

 Perhaps there is a solution!

Early Volkswagen (type 1) cars are plentiful, cheap to buy and inexpensive to maintain. New and remanufactured parts are plentiful and ridiculously cheap.

The Volkswagen Beetle was designed in 1936 and is styled with many of the same shapes, surfaces and details found in cars of the same era.

 unqoute.

I allways thought the Volksy was HITLERS REVENGE! they don't do to much for me infact I owned a 1936 CHEVY and used to get quite anoyed when the general public would ask me if it was based on a bloody Volkswagen......aaaarggggh! The Volkswagon was indeed comissioned by Adolph. It was a cheap car for the people, and it was designed by german engineers. Surprisingly, it is very hard to find the engineering crews namesOriginally posted by gherkin350

However, since Adolph did not have a direct hand in the design or marketing of Volkswagon, it is kind of hard to consider it Hitlers Revenge. Volkswagon literally translates into Peoples Car. I read an article years ago stating that the VW Beetle is the only known vehicle that was completely designed/engineered by one person. That person was infact Dr. Ferdinand Porsche. Originally Posted by Bob Parmenter Originally Posted by Bob Parmenter

ferdinand originaly planned on using a 5 cylinder air-cooled radial engine, but no matter what he did, he could not over come the overheating problems and hitlers required 100 km's per tank. instead a young engineer named Xavier Reimspess designed and built the well known air-cooled flat four that all bugs have today.

I helped a friend build and hot rod a Volkswagon back in the 70s. They are easy to work on and respond well to hot rodding. He suprised a lot of folks with that thing. I like the look and stance of the one that Jim posted. Have never seen one like that. It's different that's for sure

PatOf course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!
