I seen the steroid bug . Its cool but I am more talkin about the fenderless streetrod inspired bugs. The more I think about it the more I like it. These bodies are cheap to get so you could spend your hard earned money on other parts to your rod.
    Just an opinion.

I have to agree with you. What's really cool is that these cars give some of the younger guys a chance to build something nice and fairly inexpensive to boot.

    63 VW picture

Here's a picture of our 63 VW with a ford straight axle in it.

Sorry about the size, not sure how to make it smaller!

Assuming you use Windows you can use Microsoft Paint, it's a standard accessory program.

    Open Paint
Click file, choose open, double click the picture you want to resize.
Click Image, choose Resize, then reduce by percentage, save.

    New around here....

    I totally agree.

I like the VolksRod for this reason.

    They're cheap and fun.

Granted, I would much rather have a chopped fenderless 5 window Ford, but I haven't embraced the fiberglass body option nor do I have the deep pockets to afford a steel body...not yet. But I still hope to discover an old '32 body someday!

BTW: common misnomer - Hilter did not invent the bug. Porsche did in 1931, long before Hilter "asked" him to make a car for the German people. Hilter approached Porsche in 1934 concerning a car project (as a German business owner, it wasn't wise to say no to Hitler) Porsche offered the Kafer or "KdFWagen" as Hilter renamed it.

Following the War, Porsche served 2 years in a French prison for not saying no.

    * Funny side note: In 1948, Henry Ford considered buying VW for $5 million but then retracted his offer after saying no one would buy the funny little car...(The Beetle would easily go on to out sell the Ford Model T.)

what a perfect thread for me to post in...I myself have a 98 Golf which is being rodded as we speak. It's my daily, so it is of course a work in progress.
Honestly the only reason i decided to go with the "Hot Rod" theme for my car is that every other VW owner uses the same cookie cutter ideas when they decide to modify. Now, I'm not claiming to be one of a kind here. There are others just like me...but if you look at most of the modified VW's on the street today, well lets just say...they have nothing to do with looking driving or sounding like a hotrod.
but me...i'm the guy that is ditching fuel injection for carbs on my crossflow motor...i'm the guy that has moon equiped parts on my car...i'm the guy that just doesn't really care wtf everybody else is doing. So it just seemed natural to call it a hotrod.

well that's all...hope you guys can appreciate my view that it doesn't matter if your car is a 98VW or a 47 flathead
its a hotrod if you want it to be

    Thumbs up

We've got a couple of rodded bugs running around here in the town where I live, and I think they're way cool...

One is similar to the pic of the black one posted earlier in this thread, chopped & fenderless....the other one is chopped, and looks like it's been stretched a bit too, but they whacked the top completely off, so it's like a little roadster...

They both have pretty nasty engines in them, and sound really good too...they're both bad a$$ little bugs....

    I love em!

    V8 Powered VW's.

There was a chap in Kingston (Ontario) who built a VW with a mid mounted Buick Aluminum V8 back in the 60's. He used a Porche transaxle and Porche brakes all around. He used to race it in the sporty crowd races and actually drove it on the highway to the track. It was quite a sleeper.
I understand he used the drivetrain from a homebuilt formula libre race car (also home built) that had been wrecked in a race.
Last time I saw the car was in a mall parking lot in Brampton many years later so it apparently survived beyond its racing days.

I think an ole square back body set on an s dime frame and slammed would make a righteous grocery getter. It'd be different. Oh yeah and lots of room for lawn chairs, coolers, an all the other necessarys.....
