Yes, this is a very good swap and gets you better brakes. I have a set of these, and also modified spindles that I am saving for a future project, and it is very easy to do. The instructions you have on Jalopy Journal are accurate.

The early Ford brakes are not self energizing, but the Ford truck brakes are, so they do work better. But I think you will end up with 5.5 inch bolt pattern, but the drums can be redrilled for other patterns.
