Does it have to be a Ford v8 or are you willing to take any flathead you can get? Those Chrysler 6 cylinder motors are strong runners and can't be broke. They're cheap and easy to find as they were used in passenger vehicles, industral vehicles, and stationary applications. Parts are still available because some of the industrial motors are still in service.
1 of the small chair lifts at Hunter mtn, the back up engine is 1 of those industrial flathead 6's, most are 351 Cleveland engines. when the power goes out, they run the gas engines to get people off the lifts, there slow going but they do get the people off.
