Why'd ya take it out, I'm not shure but it may be a rare option for '63 if it was factory installed or dealer installed in the car, might want to check that out b4 you sell it, could add a lot of value to the car if it's factory original, if it's dealer installed, it's not rare. when selling, that box is just a fraction of the a/c parts, theres the compressor, evaporator and a few other things under the hood that actully do the cooling.

I took it out because ac just restricts performance, it took up room, and why do i need a Ac in a convertible? Does anyone know what it is worth?

The reason I said what I said was from a value standpoint because if it was in fact factory installed, it's probably rare and probably would add up to 1k on the book value, but, if it's dealer installed, it isn't that much of an increse. I'd bet that it was factory installed and would probably be a rare option for a convertible Galaxie in 1963. I do agree with your reasons for removing it but ya might want to check out, you'd be stupid not to. As for how much it's worth, it's going to be worth more to a restorer than a hotrodder because there are new aftermarket A/C systems that are much more efficent, I'd say that if you did decide to sell it, I'd try for at least a grand.

I'm sure it's a factory A/C because it uses the same vents as the 65/66 Mustang A/C. I checked Ebay for Mustang A/C parts and I found a complete setup for $895. Nobody has bid on it yet. I looked in the Mustang catalog and they have a complete setup for the same price brand new with more pieces included so maybe that's why there's no bids. I also found the evaporator only for $245. That has no bids either.
The 63 unit is probably harder to find than a Mustang unit but there are a lot less people restoring them so your market is very limited. I think you'd be lucky to get $300 for it.

I have seen them go for any where fron 75 to 250 dollars on ebay depending on how complete the system is,they could be dealer or factory installed as in dash air began in 65 and 64 and back were the under dash units.

    Just my 2 cents

Your 63 is a fairly desirable car and even though most of us have said that we will keep a car forever, it seldom happens and the cars eventually trade hands.

Generally speaking the cars that are worth the most are the one that are either original or can easily be restored back to that condition. Having the original parts and accessories available to restore the car are a big plus and can make a huge difference in the amount the car is worth or even wether it sells or not.

From personal experience used AC units are generally not really worth very much. This is especially true of the pre-64 fords as dealer/factory air was a hang under the dash unit. I personally know of 3 63/64 full size fords sitting in a local wrecking yard that I can buy the complete system from for $50-100. (I just bought the dealer installed evaporator assembly for a Mustang off $39 dollars off E Bay) As Matt indicated the real value of yours may be in keeping it with the car that it came from, even if it's in a box setting under the bench.

    Just food for thought.
