So it is a hemi....what makes it worth 7grand?
Read my first add. you can't build one for this price. 200 miles on rebuild 400 to 450 HP ,40 over , 10/1 compression . Heads have been bowl hogged , 280 Isky Mega cam so on and so on.
How many of you want to buy 354/392 hemis for ??????????????I'll build any complete stock hemi core engine for $4000---------will include regrinding your core crank , bore/hone block with torque plates, align bore/hone mains, deck block equal/square, new camshaft, new valve guides, rebuilt or aftermarket rods, forged pistons (compression for your application) ----------
additions over and above this is any special induction/ignition choices---carbs, FI, blowers/drives, etc---------
You can also upgrade to Donovan alum/mag valve covers with Keeling & Clayton or your name----------
Ryan--------that 392 isn't for sale anymore---progress on it moving along to be an engine share with a flathead in a 33 roadster--price of paint/upholstery/license/insurance so high that going to run flathead and hemi swapping them back and forth every now and then--------
But----I will build hemi for anyone with an usable core----------if you need referances on my work with hemis----------
Your $4,000 does seem like a super deal. I priced all new valve train, a rebuild kit with forged pistons, forged rods, and all the good stuff, an aluminum intake, new oil pump which I think is a retro'd 340 unit, dampner, front cover, and I was at $4,000 right there and I hadn't even included machine work or anything else.
Bingo, You got it. Even finding a cheap block is a challenge , I've seen them as high as $3500 and if the blocks good the heads most likely are shot. Find a good set of heads and to have them rebuilt rockers to seats is about a grand or opt for aluminum heads at $3400 for a full set and we haven't even got to the out side yet .
There is a BIG difference between asking and selling prices. Realistically, buildable core 354/392 go in the $800-1200 range. Yeah, people ask a lot more but they end up sitting on them forever or eventually drop the price to a realistic range.
Jerry’s $4K is realistic depending on what options a person chooses and how much shopping for parts a person does. Hot Hemi Heads provides a lot of neat parts and a valuable service, but they are not the only option or game in town. Here are a few examples:
The HHH front timing covers are neat and save some room when used with their lower billet pulleys and short BB Chevy water pump but kind of pricey. If space isn’t a problem the stock timing cover, long BB Chevy water pump and stock BB Mopar lower pulley.
Locally sourcing things like lifters (stock 58-67 BB Mopar) timing chain (stock SB Mopar) can save a few bucks. Also buying a stock internally balanced 318 balancer and having the key way widened and remarking the timing marks is far cheaper than buying the HHH unit for a street motor. Same thing on the oil pumps….I personally prefer the stock replacement pumps over HHH converted pumps which had a problems for a while (supposedly fixed now).
All that being said zigs, I think your $7500 asking price is realistic, although not necessarily a bargin.
