a little help with my sbc 400

I have a small block chevy 400 bored 0.30 over and I have a stuck rod according to the guy that put my top end together. He told me to keep driving it and it will eventually unstick itself. But i'm having problems starting the car...I just got a new starter and installed it, the car started up and ran. The next day I went to start it and the car wouldn't start. It sound like the starter was missing the flywheel, so I shimmed the starter and the car started. Two days later i tried to start the car and the same thing happened as before, I got the starter drag. Could someone please help me out here? Do I get a new rod and roller set, if so what would do well with the heads I have which happen to be some 882's with the steam holes already drilled?

First, welcome to CHR! With a Ft Campbell location are you a current member of the armed forces?

What do you mean by "stuck rod"? What are your symptoms, and how does a problem with the upper end relate to a starter problem? What do you mean by "...rod & roller set"? Help us out with a little more information and I expect that someone will be able to help get your problems sorted.

Thanks, and yes I am a member of the arm forces, a staff sergeant of 13 years US Army. What I mean by stuck rod is the pushrod is stuck in a groove and won't push out. That problem does not relate to the starter problem, I was stating that I also have a starter problem. What I mean by rod and roller set is, a set of pushrods and rocker arms. Sorry for the confusion

I would fix the problem rather than drive it. Both of them, upper and lower.
