Way cool, Dude....:D
My grandpa has his collection all hanging on a wall out on the family farm. The only problem is he put up another wall to hide them all. He's talked about the fabled wall for years, and said someday he'll reveal the secret location to me. I can't wait! cool plates man.
I'm looking for a pair for a '50 Pontiac in CA, have anything like that? Good condition, registerable?
No California pairs from that era at this time...
I'll be looking, so keep me posted if you come across anything.
Thanks!
jb
anything from 1962 Florida?
1962 sure has been hot!!....The guys here in Washington have wiped me out for anything 62 including motorcycle !!.....Sorry no Florida......Heres a nice pair though...
Heres another set..==condition===MINT===(unused)....
While I'm at it I might as well show this set also..These have historical value due to the fact Alaska had been a state for only a few months...Its possible "FH" is "For Hire"..aka taxicab etc...Not sure...A friend drove a taxi in Alaska in about 1960..it was a beat 38 Ferd that he had to work on all the time....So there were these type of vehicles there then......This is a pair..unused...in original package....
What a great collection!!!!! Don't know if it's true, but speaking of low numbers, I heard Tech's Social Security number is only 3 digits???????????????
Rattle my memory on Wa. '65 would be a '63 base plate with a '65 tag?
Geeze Dave......Heres Bob's SS # on metal....
Bob...63 was the state wide reissue....."Wash 63"...base plate I call em...They were stickered up well into the 1980s along with the other issued ones...But....66 was another issue year and any vehicle made 63-65 would have used the "Wash 63" base...So guys keep requesting 63-65 plates and finding one or a pair (yeah right) with only that year with the right sticker is rough....I've many base 63 but with month/year etc...Removing the stickers leaves an imprint that just doesn't cut it...And trucks....I get a flood of requests for 63-65 pairs..I have yet to find a decent pair for my own tri 6 Chevys......You guys get me going talking plates and its hard to shut me up....Anyways heres a pair of 63 issue truck..I rate these as ===RESTORABLE/REPAINTABLE===.......I did sell a pair this year rated ==GOOD== for $80.00.......
Would you happen to know what year NY used a orange background color and black outline/ lettering? I have 1 of these and I think it is from the 70's but no year is present on it.
The book says blue on orange for 1974...It appears they issued windshield stickers for the months..It seems they used this color combo until the reissue in 1986......Anyways.. heres a sort of pic...
Do you recondition the plates???? Can't believe you could find that many in that good codition!!!! I have a '67 plate for my Ranchero, should it ever get done!!!!!
I don't redo plates except sometimes sand blast and primer to preserve them...My collector friend passed away a few years back so I do't have a very good sourse anymore...He would go to the huge convention meets and bring back several hundred plates to trade...He had the 2nd biggest collection in the state of Washington at the time...40.000 plus !...Word is that his widow gave his collection away...Of course thirty-forty years ago the older stuff was more plentiful .....I'm sure I traded some that today are worth big $$$$....I sell on occasion restorable/repaintable to the right party......Heres a sort of rare one...
Heres one that is RARE.!!
The '67 plate I am saving for my Ranchero won't actually be "restored" , I am going to paint it the same color as the car, do the letters in white, and replace the picture of Mt. Rushmore with a Blue Oval decal. When spring comes I am going to get out to my Grandpa's old farm and do some scouting in my goodies stored there. If I find any nice old tags I'll keep you in mind.
Why is that DLR plate rare?
I have an IDAHO DLR 1930 plate is that rare?
Andy
Dave, not all states have YOM (Year of Manufacturer) laws. I may be wrong, but I didn't think South Dakota allows vintage plates on older vehicles. They do issue 'Historical Vehicle' license plates for vehicles over 30 years old.Quote:

Another thing to keep in mind, some states require a plate used on the car be original, restored to original (hard with Mount Rushmore), or require some form of reflectorization as original.
I'm not going to say I know South Dakota law, but I'd double check with your DMV to see if what you are planning is legal. If this is just for show display, no big deal, but for highway use, make sure you're just not inviting the police to write you tickets.
Andy.....I would say 1930 Idaho is kinda rare considering that there must not have been that many dealerships in Idaho then...Well compared to today anyways....Bill Gates Ville..er....Washington State DMV stopped issuing dealer yearly plates about thirty years ago...They started issuing stickers so the dealers don't let go of them anymore...I used to find their expired plates in their bodyshops...The guys used them to spread bondo.!!....Out of all the dealer plates I have collected.(numerous) this 67 is the only unused I have ever had...It sold today for $75.00....The tip off for unused is there are no marks on the mounting holes and no evidence of a touch up fraud deal...You will find fraud in plate collecting...Buyer beware !!...
Swifster, naw, it won't be a legal plate by any means, just for shows and maybe a bit of local cruising. I live in a small town and know all the cops, as long as it is correctly registered and the real plate is under the seat or something I don't think the locals will care..... I have a personalized plate, legal type, that I have been making my anuual payment on for years, will probably be the legal plate for it. In South Dakota we keep our personalized plates, then pay to transfer them from car to car. Good system.....
Dave, at first I would have guessed your personalized plate would have said something like FORD MAN, but then after reading your reply to califgrrll on the other thread I now think PRNC o DKNS would be more appropriate.
Naw, my mind doesn't work near that good, Bob. My South Dakota plate (reserved for certain cars only) dates back to 1976 when they started the program. It's-- FAST 1. Jackie had one on here '69 Z-28 for a few years, -- U WISH. Still pay the bill every year to keep them both.
Hey Inline...
I aksed before about a '50 CA plate, but that was before I became edjumacated.
I guess what I'm really looking for is a '47 CA plate and the '50 corner tags.
Have anything like that?
Thanks,
jb
jb.....I will look.....and or watch for one.........................................................................License plates make cheap siding.....
Cheap siding comes with names and words......
That 1980 So. Carolina come from a transplant to Capital Hill?
Ah..Capitol Hill...Remember Uncle Bob....... If you drop your wallet over there.....KICK IT HOME.!!!...
i m looking for 50 washington platesI have some really nice 58-62 singles and pairs, some 63-65's a pair of 66-70somethings ..willing to trade for a nice set of 50's
Fellow here in Jonesboro has the plates off his mother's car. The oldest is 1941 and the most current was up into the 60s I think. His mother had a problem remembering numbers. Their address was "121" so they arranged to get that for her PO box, phone number, and car tag. The 1943 tag is made out of masonite or some similar material.
63 base could also be used indefinately as long as you had the same car registering it every year. The last year my merc was registered was in 67, but the car changed hands in 63 so they got new plates. Cant see it to well in this picture, but it has 67 tabs
Hawaiian....I'm wiped out of pairs especially 1950 +...
OK inline thanks anyway, keep your eye out though !
how about a pair 2 county nebraska?dlyman2@neb.rr.com
Do you have a 65' Mississippi tag?
I only have washington plates, I am not a collector
Inline...........I actually have a yellow vanity plate that I think was stolen from the prison.lol. Seems one morning I was awakened by the police in Lacey......they asked if I had the plate VETTE.said yes. Asked if it was on a Olds wagon....yes again (I had the plate sitting in drawer for years while I worked on car...so, since I was paying for them, I put them on the wagon...they now are on a FORD Truck) He then asked if my car was in driveway.again yes. Were the plates on it.....Yes. Seems the went to wild party and some jackass kid had a yellow Vanity plate.VETTE on wall. His dad was
in prison so maybe it came from there. Well, only problem.....I never had yellow plates.......mine were standard green on white....so I drove to Lacey and got it.Sure scared me.........what would happen if the kid put it on a car and ran up tons of tickets or began robbing banks............SSHEESH:whacked:
