Here's the way I do it.I get a bucket of water with a few drops of liquid soap in it. I start with 1000 grit wet and dry paper and wet sand the area with a block. Use a sponge and wipe the area off as you sand. If you see see shiny spots on your area after wiping off, sand some more. then I switch to 1200 grit and do the same thing again. I then use 3m Rubbing compoung and buff with a foam compounding pad. After that I use polishing compound and a foam polishing pad.
The ideal is to use 1000 to get rid of the orange peel, 1200 to get rid of the 1000's scratches, rubbing compound to get rid of the 1200's scratches, polishing compound to get rid of the rubbing compound scratches.
Some people put masking tape on the edges to keep from rubbing thru.
Hope this helps.
