    Question sanding dirt in primer

i am using laquer paint....... i sealed the truck with a sealer primer.
and did it in the evening a little to late and got little nats and some dirt specks.......it an't that bad so i sanded about 10 spots with 320 grit and it looks fine....... can i sand the sealer....... and will any of the little sand spots be covered up by the paint........ and will the paint lay down smother than the primer looks..... it just don't look like an new car paint job.............jeff

You can sand the sealer. I would block sand it so you don't get a wave in the paint where you sand out a bug.

I don't know about the paint being any smoother than the primer. A paint job is only as good as the body/primer preparation. If there is a question I would block sand the whole thing to get rid of bugs, dirt specks and any orange peel. Then wipe it down and tack it off just before you spray the color coat. Laquer is easy to work with (repair) especially if it isn't metallic. I like to put enough paint on so after it cures it can be wet sanded and buffed out. When you don't have a paint booth and have to make do with what you have wet/dry sandpaper and rubbing compound are lifesaverz'.

The last paint job I did, I wet sanded it with (I think) 1,000 or 1,200 grit with a block. Sand and dry it off from time to time to see where your at. Once all the shine is gone it's flat, Then buff it with rubing compound then polishing compound. It will shine like glass. Just don't get carried away and sand or buff through the top coat.
