...... and I've never been a fan of hardware store laquer thinner other than maybe for cleanup. Stick with the same brand as the primer.
BTW: If you're looking to use this primer under a finished paint job, I wouldn't use cheap primer either. A paint job is only good if you use quality products throughout the paint process.

If your just priming it for that "Rat Rod" look, spray the cheap stuff.
