Sean I've tried the same questions before here. I think most people will tell you there are 100's of thousands of colors, so the best way to ID it is contact the owner if you are able. Next would be to take a very nice printed copy to a paint store for a computer match(which will be close but never exactly the same. As to the paint layering process, hot rod paint is the man for that question. I'm doing something similar when it comes time to paint my Ford truck. Hope this is helpfull.
