I took a class in custom painting but never stayed with it. We used baby oil after cleaning, turpentine, mineral sprits {I think lacquer thinner might have been too strong} to keep the hair moist, and like techinspector1 said, we would run the oil through the hairs with the finger and thumb getting most of the oil out, and put paper towels around them for storing.
