    Plastic filler and radiator heat

     



    Guys. I have modified my 32 Ford grill shell to accept the original radiator cap and emblem. I bought the shell before Vintique came out with theirs. Do you think that the radiator heat will cause a thin layer of plastic applied at the top of the shell to crack out? There is only about 1/2 inch air gap there.

    I really doubt the radiator gets hotter than the metal does sitting in the summer sun. I can usually touch the radiator without fear of burns. However on a hot day in the sun I can't touch the car. Plus the 1/2 inch gap will act as an insulator.

    The shell won't get that hot, there is some air between the radiator and it. I can lay my hand up on mine and it is cool to the touch after running. As mentioned, the Summer sun will get it hotter than the radiator will.

    Agreed. I would not be concerned. Here in AZ, black paint can get so hot you can cook an egg on it!
