    Painting my 32 frame

I am about to prime my 32 frame so I picked up some PPG omni epoxy primer.I was planing on driving it around for about a year before I paint it yellow. My question is will the omni be good or should I spend the money and get the better PPG primer. And the other question that I have is if I decide to paint the frame now do you think that the paint will be a miss match spraying it at a differant time. I plan on spaying a SS on the frame and a BC CC on the body.

    Thanks
    Angelo

It doesn't matter what primer you use, it's not going to hold up for a year's worth of driving and being exposed to the elements. Primer offers no UV protection and no moisture protection..... IMO you should paint the frame now. I'd rather deal with a bit of mismatch on color then having all sorts of terrible things happening to my new frame!!!! If the guy mixing the paint is good, single stage can very closely match basecoat/clearcoat. An exact match would never be guaranteed though, I'm sure....

And to add to Dave's remarks, even if the color difference between the two was off slightly, all you'd have to reshoot later is the outer rail surface that abutts the body in profile (and maybe the tank if using a stock one). The harder to paint stuff underneath will be close enough that virtually no one will be able to tell.

Thanks for the info.Do you guys think that it is better to get all the paint mixed at the same time or is not going to make a differance because one is BC and the other BC CC and they are going to be mixed separate anyway.

It's not going to make any difference at all.

Thanks guys . I did return the omni primer for the better PPG DP and I am going to paint it . I need to be patient and do it right . I guess I just want to get the car together to drive it . I waited this long I guess I can wait for the car to be painted so I am not doing double the work.

Patience, Patience, Patience!!!!! Way more difficult learning this then the physical aspects of putting a car together!!!!!

It's always difficult to weigh excitement about getting there with getting there the way that is best for your ultimate goal.

The thing about painting that is lost on most is that the biggest part of the job is prep. Every so often here we get a discussion about someone getting a quote for $XXXX.XX dollars to paint a car. The reactions run the expected gamut from "Are you nuts?" to "Is that all?". Sure materials are expensive but what makes the difference between a nice paint job and a spectacular or very good one is in the prep. There's skill in pulling the trigger and laying it down well, but the end result is based on the prep. The bulk of that guesstimate for refinish should be labor...........yep, mostly prep. So, be prepared, don't short cut the prep, and enjoy the process.
