I have been doing paint ideas for my own projects as well as for others by finding a pic of the car I need to work with, then whiting out the pic until I get a basic "coloring book" outline. Then I print out a bunch of 'em, color them with colored pencils, then scan them and clean up the color a little.

I often do the same thing, its hard to show other people a idea if its only in your head.
