    Syphon vs Gravity HVLP spraygun

I have 2 cars and 2 boats to paint. Which is the preferred type of gun by most auto painters- Syphon feed or Gravity feed? I am purchasing an Apollo 4 stage turbine outfit.

One advantage to a gravity feed is it will paint with far less paint in the cup and will empty the cup completely so less waste also less thinner to clean up

Gravity feed is great unless you are painting upside-down...

BUT........ If you use the throw- away bag inside the cup it will even paint UPSIDE- DOWN........

BTW....... The bag also saves alot on clean up (time & thinner)

3m pps system lets you paint upside down.Just did underside of a boat with it (gravity feed). Gravity feed is all i use anymore.

My Binks gravity feed works upside down if I use the little "baggie" system. My suction feed doesn't work upside down no matter what I do.

I think you guys miss interpreted the Poll :
HVLP gravity or HVLP Siphon , most HVLP siphon guns are pressurized and work well as I used a Mattson HVLP siphon for years and sipped paint better then any top loader I use today , but it is bulky and gets rather heavy ! :-)
It has been rebuilt 4 times in the 17 years I have owned it , I cant use it today as it cannot be rebuilt again as the gun body design is kind of sloppy now .

I would buy one again but the weight and bulkyness is its down fall , they do make a top loader pressure HVLP gun and am debating on buying , or most likely the new Iwata LPH-400 LVB base gun , as it has a real slim gun body and is a very light top loader gun .

Gravity feed all the way. Siphon is just a huge mess to deal with. Gravity. and if you need to paint upsidedown... bag system. Theres no reason to use siphon anymore.
If at first you don't succeed... skydiving probably isn't for you.
