Hey vectorch -
I was in Granite Shoals the other day!! Beautiful country out there. I'm from Hutto which is north of Austin.
Anyway, I noticed a building in Granite Shoals that had a bunch of 50s - 70s classics in it. There wasn't a name on the building and it was the middle of the day on a Thursday and they weren't open. The building looked like it had formerly been a boat dealership/showroom. There was a '57 Chevy in there that I'd really like to talk to someone about.
Do you anything about this? We drove all over the Highland Lakes area that day. I'm pretty sure I remember this being in Granite Shoals, but it may have been in a nearby town...
Thanks for any help...

Beautiful engine! As Pro70z says it looks like a small block on the outside but it may actually be "big inside". Anyway with an Elky you "can really haul"!I guess I am sort of a bloodsucker on this Forum always trying to learn stuff about Chevy technology after freezing my mind back in the '50s with flathead Fords, so my questions are:
1. Do you mind telling where you got the ignition wire looms? I haven't seen that style before.
2. What is your view (anyone else can answer this as well) on the fact that you seem not to have a heat shield between the headers and the starter solenoid. I don't have one either, but folks tell me my solenoid will not last long that way. I ordered a heat shield from Speedway but it didn't fit so I do not have one yet, but is it not a good idea to keep heat away from the solenoid? I am just trying to learn about Chevy stuff and you really have a neat setup there, what is the actual cu. in.?

Na' I was just referring to the pixel size of the pic. HEHEHE
I've never used a heat shield on an engine with headers and never hard a hard starting or maintenance problem. Sure couldn't hurt to have a shield though."PLAN" your life like you will live to 120.

".......So sanded it all down and resprayed. ......" Been there. done that on a couple of paint jobs over the years. Usually took me a couple of days to get over being mad before I started...
