I always thought the ol' resistor type is still the best.
If I read Streets original question correctly, he is askin about the views on the adjustment of the conical ceramic Johnson Rods. Yes, the old resister type are a tad better, only because of the warm-up time. Ya don't want to get them Rods warmed up too fast or they'll bend for sure.
Welcom to the club Gorn. Nice to see someone still runs a real camaro. oh, and pro60, What are you talking about? the conical johnsons are the best. Due to their rounded sides, they take heat transferrance a lot better than the resistor. Thats why AMC V12s took em!:LOL::D
You guyz er' both forgettin the resistor style came out with an oil bath upgrade in the early 70'z that cured all but the most severe heat transferance problems. Must I remind you of the rule change in the early 70'z @ the "Great Race", when ALL carz' were required to use the new resistor style oil bath Johnson Rod, because if it's safety and reliability.
Sorry, my rule book was burned in a fire, but I think I remember getting a notice on that upgrade. Wasn't it a supplement, printed on YELLOW paper? I do remember it suggested not to use the adjustable style resistor. And didn't that upgrade also mention the fact that you must use non-pourus, non-choloric 11-15 oil? Man that suff was hard to find for a while.:3dSMILE:Quote:

You're it.
I thought the creator of the johnson rod J.Johnson passed the company on down to his duaghter whos married name was kanuton..so isnt the common johnson rod now refered to as the kanuton rod now or is she only making valves?:whacked:
someone please pass me the memo on this would ya!

If my memory serves me correctly, I don't think J. Johnson ever had a daughter. he was too much into perfecting his now famous Johnson Rod to bother with females.
I believe he had a son who was estranged from the family.Quote:

But ya' doesn't need ta' call me Johnson!!!!
After his lil' rant he did break down N' say he wuz' Ruutin' Tuutin' Kanuutin' On the Johnson side.
Ya' know..... I thought I recognized that nose.

My Everyday Ride
I also have a 86 Monte Carlo SS with the original 305 in it. Its my toy. Hope to do a restore this summer. Paint, crate engine and new interior. Interior work is all new to me so I am looking for any info on it. I got my eye on a industrial sewing machine from over at Harbor freight.
Be carefull with those 305s. Due to low-flow heads and small bores, they had to use the aluminum johnson rods in order to keep the costs down. However, if you manage to decode pro60s information, you may find the info you need to convert the 305 to the standard triple-roller johnson Rods used in the 315 mopar wankel engines in order to keep in this plane of reality!:LOL::whacked:

I thought in 86 Johnson was on GM's double secret probation so GM uses Johnson like rods but not Johnson originals. This is one of the reasons I decided on a crate engine.
The other reason is that the 305 in any form is a POS and I can get a NEW 350 4 bolt for around $1200.
:3dSMILE: just joined the site and he's already talkin about johnson rods:eek: your gonna fit right in Gorn:LOL:
