    New member 1948 Olds rat

Hi, I'm Bob from Norfolk, Va. I've been building a '48 Olds fastback coupe for a few years. I'm a little new at this, but I've had a number of cars over the years and I've managed to do a little work here and there. Right now I have a sbc positioned in the engine bay waiting for the temperature to warm so I can back to it. I have limited funds so I'm not going to redo the suspension. Hopefully I can progress through process to the end. I'm using parts from other GM models. Like, i am using a grill from a center section of a '53 Caddy, steering wheel from a '50's Chevy truck, and tail lights from a '39 Chevy. My plans are to sell the car at some point along with my '59 VW bug to buy a '69 Nova or Chevelle. Thanks for the great online organization.

Welcome to CHR, Bob. The term "rat" carries a lot of different concepts, both good and bad. For me, the bad is the guys who pay no attention to safety and quality in their construction, throwing a bunch of crap together just for the shock value without any regard and laughing as they bounce down the road. When you can, post some pictures of your Olds, so we can see what you're doing, and your approach to what you call your "rat".

Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.
