Welcome, Todd. Glad to have you here. Not to be negative, but 1972 was the last year before the emissions attack on Detroit. Starting in 1973 they invoked the CAFE rules, and the OEM engineers were scrambling to meet the new requirements, using just about any trick they could come up with. This is when we got the EGR systems for the first time, modulating the addition of exhaust gasses to the combustion chamber to slow the burn and reduce NOX emissions. 1973 and 1974 were two of the worst years for emission controls.
