Hello,
i'm ratboy rebel, 38y old living in holland, and a specialist industrial tyrefitter. i came here looking for support on maintaining american cars trucks and vans. i seen to much backyard mechanics overhere claiming they know what they are doing. I do know my way arround cars but sometimes i like a second opinion from some ho actually know what they are doing and not just slapping on some parts so that the cars sits more in repair then seeing roads due to wrong setups on cams carbs lifters and such.
Currently i have a 79 GMC vandura i bought a few weeks ago. sadly even after a 20mile testdrive that went great so i got the van, but when driving home the 305 started ratling and seized, so two days ago i got a 350 supposedly from a 78 caprice.

wellp together they go thru about 6 kilos of food and 15 liters of water/day, but combined you get about 300kg of love and protection back.

denmark, holland its all the same, only difference is temperature and language

probably yeah, nothing a lil machining can't cure

The difference in the engines compression ratios did not come from being machined differently----------the oem manufactures open up head chamber cc and used severely dished pistons to lower the CR so the low octane lead free gas could be used----------for the results that you are looking for you can probably source an rebuild kit from source like perfit circle or sealed power----------kits are available with pistons,rings,bearings,gaskets plus you can choose various cam/lifter set ups-----------


If I was building a street type 350 (even a stroker) I would use one of the later blocks (one piece seal ) for the roller lifters-----


I would also mention/suggest that you look at the possibility of swapping in one of the late model LS series engines from a wreck car

thx for the info jerry, for now the engine i have will have to do untill next winter so i saved up enough to do a complete overhaul of the block. i do agree what you say about the LS, maybe i will come accross one somewhere this year, problem is that most here think that LS stands for "ok now i can charge you double the money for an old engine" even the block itself without any work, internal or external components they would slap a price off at least 1200€ (about 2000usd) some overhere just want to rip off people who don't know alot about cars. i'm no pro either but i know enough to at least keep a car maintained and safe(my daily driveris 21y and has almost 500k without any major breakdowns appart from a new clutch and pressureplate and hasnt had any comment from the anual safetyinspection since i got it 6y ago)
