New Guy From the Dallas Area

Was raised around cars. My dad raced the old dirt modifieds throughout the 60's around the SW Missouri, NW Arkansas, NE Oklahoma area. He also ran a 41 Willys Gasser for a few years. My mom swears that until I was about 6 I thought the National Anthem was the "Racing Song".

Bought my first car 48 Plymouth Business Coupe when I was 14 drove the hell out of that car, finally spun a bearing so out went the 6 and in went a healthy 383. I have also had a 62 Impala 2 door hard top with a 327, 73 Cuda with a 383, and a 34 Plymouth Coupe with a 318. Then I got married, had kids and cars were history for a while.

Went 22 years with nothing more that a family sedan. Oldest daughter is on her own and the youngest is in college so I have the time and funds, well time anyway to get started again.

Bought another 48 Plymouth Coupe a few years ago but this time it is a club coupe. This time around going fast is not the end all as it was before, so I decided to stick with a hot rod flathead. I built a 30 over 59 model 230 with Edgy aluminum head, Offenhauser intake, twin Carter/Webbers, Fenton repop cast iron header and an S10 HEI. Backed it up with a 53 model Borg Warner R10 OD transmission into a stock 3.90rear. Added disc brakes to the front and lowered it about 2 1/2 inches.

Still need to do the body work/paint and interior. This had been my daily driver so progress was slow on the time consuming parts of the build.

Here are a couple of pictures of the new engine and an overall shot of the car.

Welcome to CHR! Nice old Plymouth, and great job on that engine, it's super clean! What part of the SWMO, NWAR, NEOK area did you stomp around in as a kid, and what timeframe? I was in extreme SWMO from late '40's to the mid 60's and for a time lived very near the cornerstone where MO, AR and OK meet.

Small world! I was a ways south, but not too far down in Noel & Southwest City. I think we went up to Carl Junction once for a B-Ball game, but that would have been around '64. I graduated from NHS in '65 just before the district consolidated into McDonald County HS, and my folks migrated north in ~'67. Went up to MoKan three or four times back in the HS days, too, and used to make an occasional run to Joplin to cruise Range Line Road, or to go to the early box stores for things we couldn't get in the sticks, like floor mats, license frames, etc, etc.....
    Good to have you here!
