New guy here from SE WI

Hey everybody I'm new to the forum, well kinda, I joined almost a year ago but I'm long overdue for the "Intro Post". Joined this site mainly because of all the great info I was finding on here by visiting. I have a '49 Lincoln 4 Door Sport Sedan 9EL that belonged to my grandfather. He got it in the early 80's and it was all original and black. He started a mild custom job on it by painting it red, nosed, decked and shaved it. He added in a sub-frame from (what I was told) a '76 Camaro. It has a SBC 400 mated to a TH350 in it which from my limited knowledge and research would have to be from the '74 Impala Wagon that the rear end and drive shaft came from as far as I know. I couldn't find anything saying the 400 was used in a Camaro but I'm sure someone can clarify for me (partly of why I'm here). I checked with three web sites and the number on the bell housing says it's a 400, woo hoo! It also has a custom grey interior that he installed. Other than that it's mostly original.

The car is named 'Papa's Toy' because he was known as Papa to everyone in the family so I'll refer to him in that manner from now on sometimes . He passed in '98 and the car changed hands a few times until Sep 09 it has returned to the family and it will never leave again while I'm alive. All the existing chrome on it will get cleaned up and stay. The painted bumpers that Papa painted will go back to chrome.

I may upgrade the engine for a little more power but it's a cruiser not a drag car! I have some questions involving what to do with the frame: get it looked at and straightened if it needs it and upgrade from there or do I buy a whole new custom chassis? It's basically going to become a resto-mod and be in prime condition to drive anywhere. And yes when it's done I'm going to drive the wheels off of it just as my Papa did. To me there's no point in owning a car if you are not going to drive it. Below is a pic of what it looks like now except I "gutted" the rims. I took those wire assemblies out of the rims because all they did was rattle and one fell off at one point! I plan to get white walls with full moons, probably the ones from American Racing. I also plan to add some three tip lake pipes to it what Papa used to have on it back in the day. Thanks and glad to be here and look forward to all the advice I may get while I finish Papa's Toy!

Welcome, and that's a great looking Lincoln! Having so much history on it, and being a family car makes it even more special!

Never have done a Lincoln, but I've done a few Mercs. The chop has to be done just right, too much and the car loses it's identity. Got some pictures in my gallery of a couple, there both glass bodied cars but the car the molds came off of was an original steel car with a chop.

The original frame is a stout piece, if the job putting the 'maro front on was done correctly and the frame itself isn't all rotted away you might want to stay with what you have, also pictures in my gallery of a couple frames I did for the Mercs.

As with any car, it's important to have a good plan before you start anything on the car, sounds like you have that part taken care of! I usually put it all down on paper, then start filling in details for the plan as they are worked out!
